Little Miss Sunshine


Our Little Miss Sunshine is growing up and how fast! She is now at an age where she is beginning to think independently. This means that her “yes”s are quiet clear and her “no”s are even more emphatic.  This also means that she is beginning to express herself independently as well. I love it when she forms these really looonnnnggg sentences and gets stuck half way, struggles to find the right word, finishes with a satisfaction of having conveyed her thoughts.  This also means that we get to hear her non stop jabber- it starts as soon as she opens her eyes in the morning and ends only when she closes them again at night. Just yesterday a close friend of our’s was telling me, if your daugther’s mouth was made of wood or rubber, it would have been broken or worn out by now!  It’s like you are living with this old granny who happens to be really tiny. Why? Well, I am cooking in the kitchen and she comes in asking, “ Have you added the salt?” ; My husband is riding the two wheeler a little fast and she goes, “ Go slowly appa, be careful”; You come out of the bathroom and she asks, “ Did you have a good bath?”.  I often wonder who is taking care of whom? Is it possible to talk so much and that too when you are only two? Now I just resign myself and wait for the time when the “no”s will get louder and the arguments will begin. Until then I pause to enjoy this phase when worldly wisdom flows out of a tiny mouth, caramelized by  baby talk!!

Life is a circus and I am a trapeze artist. I swing from one bar to another- trying to play it safe. So I swing from work to family, from duty to indulgence, from responsibility to blithe. All the while I think that I will not slip, I will not miss. I should not slip, I should not miss. I know the net is there below me, in case I trip. A net with many names - family, friends, financial security, hope, confidence. There will be clowns in colourful dresses, crowds gawking with bated breath, ring masters with watchful eyes. For my part, I would just be glad that the act is done, I managed without injuries, I entertained and I did what was expected of me. Happy to be creative

I am a left handed person and they say lefties are more artistically and creatively inclined. In my family I am the only one who has interest in crafts, arts and things like that. I am the happiest when I am creatively occupied. I like to get my creative juices flowing. I love sending out hand made cards and gifts. I love participating in contests that involve creativity. It may be a contest to come up with a name or with a tag line or anything like that. Who cares about winning. Participation is fun! When I see something I immediately know that I have to do something about it. I mean, I see an empty chocolate box and may feel like making a jewelery box out of it. I may see a nice gift wrapper and feel like making a book mark out of it. So when I saw a simple toran/ door hanging my niece made at her summer camp, my mind started ticking. The feeling of being left out

I have often had to deal with uncomfortable situations of being left out, be it on the family, professional or friends front. It's a miserable feeling to not be asked to join a group of friends when they plan to go out, to be excluded from nice family get togethers , to not be a part of office gossip. Leaves me wondering if people perceive me as not trustworthy, uncool or just prefer not having me as a part of all the fun and togetherness. Whatever the reason such occasions have taught me a lot- to be self sufficient, to be my own best friend, to take things in a good stride, to accept the fact that I cannot be a part of everything everyone does. Once the acceptance comes, the pain from all the rejection and indifference of others gets more and more tolerable. The hurt remains but the bright side is that it prepares you for life.
